A place so full of pride
From the north, to the east, to the west side
It's the city that works or, so it's said
A place where everyone votes, even the dead
It's one of a kind
And no one seems to mind
CHICAGO
The people love their politics
They even expect a few tricks
The politicians are like magicians
You never know what they have up their sleeves
Election days, are like Christmas Eve
In the morning, everyone is always surprised at what they got
Man, that city's hot
CHICAGO
From the gangsters who shoot
To the police who boot
Whatever your taste
You'll find it at, The Taste
Whatever your sport
Well, whatever your sport
There's no place like, The Windy City
There's no place like
CHICAGO

A Woman
07/15/03 |
A woman is the embodiment
Of everything we hold dear
She is everything we fear
A woman is
Commitment, Confinement, Responsibility
A woman is Reality
She is, all that, she is
A WOMAN
To your woman
Should your hand or voice be raised
Let it be in praise
To your woman, offer a beautiful flower
Let her know, only nature holds more power
Even off key, with no tone
Tell her, wherever she stands
She never stands alone
No matter who you want to be
She will always be
A WOMAN

Go Tell The Spartans
07/25/03 |
We too have done our duty
When the call came
We were game
Young and strong
Older and wiser
From cowhand to top level supervisor
We answered the call of the distant drum
GO TELL THE SPARTANS
We too have done our duty
Mighty and strong
Forward we went to right a wrong
Gallant stories shall we tell
Of those brave souls who fell
We shall fly our yellow ribbons
And pass on the medals given
When we think of home
We think how weary a nation has grown
Bring the boys home
GO TELL THE SPARTANS
We too have done our duty
We long for the feel of rain
The smell of green grass
For a time of no more pain
We long for and embrace
From a loving and familiar face
Will no one plead our case?
We too have done our duty
GO TELL THE SPARTANS

A Single Parents Prayer
10/07/03 |
Give me this night of pleasure
To ease the pain I can't measure
Please let my 9 to 5 be alive Without these "pennies from heaven"
I don't know how we could survive
I don't want a handout from Uncle Sam
My kids call him Uncle Don't Give A Damn
These are the things I pray for in
A SINGLE PARENTS PRAYER
I'm raising my kids on my own
When problems come home, I stand-alone
I cry the tears they don't see
Others have two parents
They have only me
Housework, homework, trying to get to work
The last thing I need is problems from the city clerk
These are the things I pray for in
A SINGLE PARENTS PRAYER
I stood my ground and kept mine
While others left theirs behind
Every night I say I love you
This is what a single parent must do
Give me the strength to keep going
This is the best I can do, not knowing
These are the things I pray for in
A SINGLE PARENTS PRAYER

Who's To Know
10/21/03 |
Sometimes I wonder
When I look back upon my life
What would I change
Oh no, not in my life
But, in the lives of those
Whose lives I've touched
What would I do different
Would I smile a little more
Would I change the tune
In the song and dance I've done
When confronted with the ifs and whys
WHO'S TO KNOW
I've said I'm sorry more time than I care to remember
But, was I truly sorry, is anyone ever
There've been happy times shared with others
All smiles and laughs, living for the moment
Oh how fleeting are these times
So easily remembered, on a glass of wine
These fleeting moments we hold dear
And pray they are not forgotten, but then
WHO'S TO KNOW
Upon a star filled sky, a full moon lay
As we make love, not soon forgotten
Remembered upon roses and a sentimental card
Youthful love and, the embrace of time
Do things to the mind
Things thought long forgotten
Are remembered with a thought and a smile
And then I wonder
WHO'S TO KNOW

Life In The Closet
11/02/03 |
Is hell on the streets
Constantly gauging your secret
To those you meet
It's not easy to laugh
When you're the butt of the joke
It' such an unfair yoke
Is it a crime to want to shine like a star
But, we live in the dark
Because of who we are, that's
LIFE IN THE CLOSET
To wear the clothes of whom I'm not
I think not
Don't confuse me, with who I'm not
Queer is not a word I like to hear
In a politically correct way
Just call me gay
I have a name and, a friend
Our relationship is not a sin
Nor is it a message, we're trying to send
We may bend the rules but, that's
LIFE IN THE CLOSET
Though I am not. There are so many people who only want to live there lives they way they wish too. Their only crime, is that it goes against the norm. We must all live together.

If
11/14/03 |
If I could go back in time
Way back, back when
A dime was a dime
What would I find
Perhaps, I would find courtesy
Something I no longer see
Maybe, I would find what it meant
To be a family
IF
Back in time, would I be surprised at what I would find
I would find a thing called craftsmanship
When people took pride in their work
When people really came to work
I remember when a railroad clerk
Had a pocket watch that worked
And the world turned on its tic-toc
IF
I can recall when
A persons word was as solid as a rock
Now it seems
The good ship integrity has missed the dock
The America we dreamed of
Became the America we couldn't face
When Americans discovered a drug called crack
If someone could go back
The fear is
Why would they come back here

Who'll Share These Tears
11/25/03 |
I can't hold back the flood
Let the rains come
Let the storm shake and rumble
Let the sound frighten and humble
My eyes are red and sore
I can't cry alone anymore
WHO'LL SHARE THESE TEARS
I have a picture album of blank pages
All those I hold dear, are no longer here
I remember their faces, their tender ages
Their youthful zeal
I'm at a loss at what to feel
My heart and, the dam is broken
So many fears, so many tears
WHO'LL SHARE THESE TEARS
My past is gone, can there be a future
WHO'LL SHARE THESE TEARS

A Family
12/06/03 |
A FAMILY
Is where you come from
It's where you've been
It's where you hope to go
From distances not imagined
When the seeds of the family tree were planted
We reach out to hear, to touch
To feel ourselves grow
To be
A FAMILY
When the sun brings us tomorrow
Let's cast aside
The strife, the sour grapes, the sorrow
The heart that beats in your chest
Drives the blood that rushes through me
When I open my arms
You're a welcome guest
You are me
Let us be the we
Together we will always be
A FAMILY

H-I-V
12/16/03 |
Help, like AIDS, is a four-letter word
One strikes fear
To the other, we turn a deaf ear
Nearly half the known world
Is infected with H-I-V
Yet, we say
What does that have to do with me
Don't bother me with
H-I-V
The origin of H-I-V
Has not been dated
So, like the origin of Man
It's hotly debated
The world is begging, "Please help me"
But, if it doesn't touch you or me
Don't bother me with
H-I-V
How did the world get into such a mess
A simple virus, a single minded bug
Did we close our eyes and, sweep it under the rug
Opening Pandora's Box, wasn't our intention
The world lived through "The Dark Ages"
Somewhere in the history pages
Will our time be called "The Dark Years"
Please Be Aware Of What's Out There
