The Christmas Spriit
01/02/04

Is there such a thing
Or, is it an excuse to hear the cash register ring
December 25th, is just another day
One that won't be missed
Except for the Religious Holiday
So, where is this thing we call
THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
It exist in the ides of June or, May
When you express I Love You
And show it that day
If you understand today is all you have
If you wait
And, leave out the door and return never more
It will be too late
To show the real meaning of
THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
A homeless person has everything they need
We call them a bum
But, they live a life without greed
In their eyes
It's Christmas everyday
If their eyes can see another sunrise
THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
To understand Christmas Day
One has to rejoice
What tomorrow brings their way
If tomorrow comes
Rejoice in everyone that comes your way
When you feel alive
Give thanks to
THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

Cancer
01/12/04

God, created two near perfect creations
Then he put one creation inside, the other
When asked why he would do such a thing
His answer was very simple, He said
"BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD"
The first creation He called
The Human Body
The other creation He called
CANCER
The two creations regarded each other
As the troublesome little brother
Always showing up unexpected
Forever in the way
And you can believe
Never wanting to leave
He goes by many names
But, if you want him to answer
Just call him
CANCER
God gave them both
The will to live
Then He said
"NO MORE SHALL I GIVE"
What will be, will be
The two bound together for eternity
One called
The Human Body
The other called
CANCER

Tomorrow
01/25/04

The tomorrow of our dreams
A good retirement
Grandchildren at our feet
May not be the tomorrow we see
Dreams and reality seldom meet
Closings and layoffs
The curse of the pink slip
All jokes aside
It's enough to make one think of suicide
Dreams are so sweet
But, what about
TOMORROW
What do you do
When years ago
You left your parent's home
Now they need to come share yours
Who amongst us can say no
With a job there's hope
To be unemployed in America
Is to have reached the end of your rope
Today maybe sunny and bright
But, sometime after midnight
What comes along is called
TOMORROW
Tomorrow need not be bleak
Maybe tomorrow the economy won't be so weak
Maybe those looking
Will find the job they seek
Tomorrow holds but one guarantee
Tomorrow, is not guaranteed

Why Are We Surprised
03/25/04

Does anyone cook anymore
Now we super size
And get a little more
Now that we've gained
A size or two
We want to sue
That's the American thing to do
Between me and you
WHY ARE WE SURPRISED
When someone loses their job
They lose their home
The fabric of America
The family, falls apart
All the while
Everyone is playing
A pocket slot machine
We've got to get the points
Got to get to the next level
Some say, it's nothing but the devil
WHY ARE WE SURPRISED
A child takes a gun to school
Lives will change this day
Hooray for the N.R.A.
Hours by the score
Our children sit in front of a screen
Their only goal
Is to kill more and more
We praise our liberties
But, is it safe to walk out your front door
We can't stop progress
But, oh what a mess
This thing we call progress
Between me and you
WHY ARE WE SURPRISED

Here For A Minute, Gone In A Second
04/09/04

Our old friend Death
Has an abacus
He has no need
For a desk top, nor lap top
When he pushes a bead
Time stops
HERE FOR A MINUTE, GONE IN A SECOND
We bask in the sunlight
Yet, we fear the night
So silly are we
Death cares nothing about time
He simply says, you are mine
HERE FOR A MINUTE, GONE IN A SECOND
The time between life and death
When we cherish every breath
When that which we hold dear
Seems so clear
Hold on to what you've got
For soon it will be not
HERE FOR A MINUTE, GONE IN A SECOND

S.O.S
07/29/04

You would think me crazy
Would be my first guess
But, would someone please
Help me get out of this mess
I am an American
Being held hostage in America
By ignorance
Is it only me
Or does everyone see what I see
S O S
I see a generation whose mind has been stolen
From hand held games
To super computer main frames
It's more important to score big time
Than to think of ways to better use your mind
Fashion has become a nightmare
There's a clown out there somewhere
Saying the way these kids wear their clothes
There's a copyright infringement somewhere
Shoes that light up, clothes that don't fit
Colors only a clown would wear
He would demand justice, from just us
S O S
The word respect is in jeopardy of being dropped
It will be forgotten if this madness doesn't stop
There's no respect for life
There's no respect for husband or wife
There's no respect for the family life
Think me crazy if you will
But, I can no longer stand still
If you see what I see
Please help me
I'm an American
Being held hostage in America
By ignorance

What Color Do You See
02/22/05

When one dons the uniform of the U.S. armed forces
Do you see the uniform
Or do you see the skin color
Do you see the we in "WE THE PEOPLE"
Or do you see the uniform of the people
WHAT COLOR DO YOU SEE
Segregation, integration, a nation in stagnation
Citizenship is but a thirst upon dry lips
Yet those who long for a home
Don the uniform once the oppression is gone
Only to find the U.S. is kind
To everyone but their kind
Red, Black, Yellow, skin kissed by the desert sun
No matter the medals won
WHAT COLOR DO YOU SEE
From a reservation, to a jungle rot
From burning sands, to the meadow lands
America is a dream worth dying for
To be a U.S. citizen is the quest
Putting on the uniform makes you America's best
From a mirror a reflection is cast
Then the question is asked
WHAT COLOR DO YOU SEE

Why Me
08/29/05

In my dream, a voice called to me
"Come and see, Come and see"
And behold I saw, a mechanical beast
The name of the beast was Death
A figure upon the beast called to me
"There is no honor in tragedy"
I called out
WHY ME
Then a voice called to me
"Come and see, Come and see"
And behold I saw, a multitude of souls
Upon their chest was a number
Each number greater than the other
Each number meant the order in which their soul was claimed one by one
And they began to chant as one
"Bring me home, Bring me home"
I called out
WHY ME
Then a voice called to me
"Come and see, Come and see"
And behold I saw, a man with a banner
Upon the banner were but two words
One was "MORE", and the other was "GREED"
The man spoke in a tongue I did not understand
Yet he beckoned me to follow him down the road
Upon the road where I stood
Were the names of the fallen soldiers, their names clear and bold
And the names upon the road called to me
A whisper so clear
WHY ME

It's Good To Be Alive
11/30/05

I heard the wind scream like banshees
I saw scores drop to their knees
I could have sworn
I heard the load moan of a horn
I can't describe how it made me feel
When someone screamed, "it's the Horn of Gabriel"
No matter what else I'll ever say
I'll say this today
IT'S GOOD TO BE ALIVE
When America turned out to help Americans
I couldn't help but ask, which Americans
For 3 days perched on a roof top
We endured blistering heat
All the while with nothing to drink or eat
It's said "you never miss the water until the well goes dry"
I damn sure won't miss this water
Let me tell you brother, that ain't no lie
They called it Katrina
But, a scorned woman couldn't have been meaner
So many didn't live to see another day
But, I'll say this till my last day
IT'S GOOD TO BE ALIVE
It was such a shame, my 15 minutes of fame
I think some people thought it was a surreal video game
I think some people thought "I have lost everything"
Was merely a song everyone was trying to sing
To the news media we were just places and faces
They enjoyed the ratings and attention
But, when it was all over, we barely got a mention
The one thing they couldn't catch
Was our drive to stay alive
IT'S GOOD TO BE ALIVE

Even though the news media has moved on and forgotten the victims of hurricane Katrina. Your plight is our plight. The money may have stopped. But, the prayer keep coming. Just keep getting up.

Thank You America
02/01/07

For all that you've done
You've allowed "The Children of New Prleans" to live on the run
New Orleans is "A Jealous Mistres"
She misses her hugs and kisses
As difficult as it may seem
Coming home is still a dream
But, dreams are for children and the rich
For everyone else there's hope
THANK YOU AMERICA
Unwanted and despised
It's not hard to see where the true fault lies
Let's not turn a deaf ear or, blind eyes
To those displaced and, forced to carry their baggage with
So many times their crimes are just a myth
Hold up, wait a minute, let's not play the race card
A bad wind hit everyone just as hard
Under the boot of D.C.
It comes down to, what color do you see
